MARQUETTE LOSES OUT ON TOP TARGET

August 18, 2006

Marquette misses on an in-state target Madison Prep Star Keaton Nankivil Stays Close to Home (Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel) and chooses Wisconsin over Marquette. He was long expected to pull the trigger for Wisconsin, although Marquette stayed in the race to the end (with Boston College, too). The Golden Eagles will explore other avenues with their last remaining scholarship.

Illinois Prep Bulls-Eye updates some of the recruiting of a handful of players in the state in their Recruiting Blurbs. Among those updated are 6'5 Tim Flowers from Simeon High School in Chicago and 6'5 Matt Humphrey from Hales Franciscan High School in Chicago. Flowers had a tremendous July and his recruiting has blown up. He now has the attention of Marquette, who has just one scholarship to give and are really hoping for a commit from 6'8 Keaton Nankivil from Memorial High School in Madison, WI. However, Flowers strong play in July warrants this attention. Humphrey has a scholarship offer from Notre Dame and is also attracting heavy interest from Illinois, DePaul, Iowa and Georgia among others, according to Illinois Prep Bulls-Eye.
