Marquette Pull Out All the Stops (Journal-Sentinel) for 'Marquette Madness' last Saturday night as Tom Crean got priority 2008 prospect Iman Shumpert and Jared Swopshire to attend. The evening was highlighted by Dwyane Wade coming back to his college stomping grounds to address the psyched up crowd and rub elbows with the recruits. One player loved the atmosphere so much he offered up a recruitment, although Erik Williams will not be on campus until the summer of 2009, he felt the time was right to commit this past weekend.

The 6'6 athletic forward from Cypress Springs High School (TX) also had Alabama, Baylor and Texas A&M aggressively pursuing him in this early stage, however, he loved the basketball atmosphere at Marquette and the prospects of developing more of his guard skills at the next level.

Of course, Shumpert was the main attraction this weekend and Tom Crean has pulled out all the stops in trying to gain a commitment from the Oak Park River Forest High School and the wait is almost over as IllinoisHighSchoolBasketball.com reports that a decision should be public by Thursday of this week. The 'Marquette Madness' definitely made an impression on him. North Carolina and Georgia Tech are his other two finalists.

The Golden Eagles have two scholarships open for 2008 with the early commitment from Alabama guard Nick Williams in hand, Shumpert is the main priority and the Golden Eagles also have interest in New Jersey guard Tyshawn Taylor who hopes to visit later this month. Swopshire, another wing forward, was in for a weekend visit, but Marquette has also been aggressively pursuing big men options as well. Garret Stutz seems to be the latest target at the forefront as the Golden Eagles are hoping the 7-footer from Kansas City (MO) comes to campus later this month. Chris Otule, a 6'10 senior center from Fort Bend Bush High School (TX)is working on scheduling a visit within the next few weeks. Also on the radar is atheltic New Jersey power forward Dominic Rutledge who also recently visited and a similar forward from Texas named Dwight Miller that Marquette is tracking.

As for underclassmen, in addition to Erik Williams, Diamond Taylor and Joey Brooks from the class of 2009 were on campus this past weekend and Jamil Wilson of Racine Horlick is the Golden Eagles top target for 2009.
