MARQUETTE BASKETBALL NEWS & NOTES

September 29, 2008

Buzz Williams has been buzzing since taking over for Tom Crean at Marquette. The new Golden Eagles head coach already has secured new verbal commitments from Jeronne Maymon, Junior Cadougan and Dwight Buycks and re-affirming the previous commitment of Erik Williams. The sudden departure of Trevor Mbakwe has opened another scholarship and the staff has been pursuing several front court prospects to close out an excellent class as well as a highly rated shooting guard.

Todd Rosiak has a lengthy Interview With Michael Snaer for the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Snaer is a highly touted 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Moreno Valley (CA) and he took a trip to Marquette for an official visit this weekend. During the campus visit, there were a few open runs involving the basketball team which allowed Rosiak to get Look at Snaer (Journal-Sentinel) in action. Previous verbal commitment Jeronne Maymon was also on the campus for a visit and it allowed Rosiak some time Checking in With Jerrone Maymon (J-S) as well.

In other MU recruiting news, Sasa Borovnjak Will Take an Official Visit to Marquette, according to Boyscouthoops.com. Borovnjak is a 6-foot-9, 230 pound Serbian that is currently attending Veritas Christian Academy in North Carolina. MU head coach Buzz Williams recently made a trip to watch the Serb workout at Veritas and offered him to come check out Marquette for their Midnight Madness event. Another school of high interest to Borovnjak is North Carolina State. He hopes to sign with a school in November.

Here’s the Buzz from Jeff Goodman and his Good ‘N Plenty Basketball Blog at FoxSports.com on Buzz Williams as he prepares to lead the experience-laden Marquette team into the season. Williams was an assistant for MU last season before being picked to succeed Tom Crean when he left for the head coaching position at Indiana. With his loaded backcourt and a fast-improving Lazar Hayward, if you into College Basketball Betting for March Madness success, maybe this Golden Eagle squad is one to watch in the 2008-2009 season.
